The practice will allow you to indulge and release, especially with a combined healing of aromatherapy, cranial sacral, massage. You will be on the boards we use in the water that we have balanced on sand pillows to simulate the water element. This is a perfect workshop if you are missing summer on the water with Sup East Coast Style.  Or a chance to try Sup Yoga if you have been a little nervous.

Join Jeanne for a fun interactive workshop to learn the Basics of Power Yoga. Jeanne will break down some of the most challenging aspects of the practice. Modifications will be taught so you can immediately feel comfortable participating in all levels classes.

The following techniques will be taught and practiced:

Sun Salutations and how to move from high to low plank

Foundational poses will be broken down such as Downdog Updog Warrior Poses and many of the standing poses typically practiced in Power Yoga

This workshop is appropriate for those brand new and for those who want to refine their technique.

We will be graced by the presence of Lama Migmar of the Cambridge Sakya Center. Lama Migmar is the Buddhist Chaplain of Harvard, frequent traveler with and assistant to the Dalai Lama, and an all-around engaging and approachable carrier of great wisdom. Receive his teachings of Buddhist Philosophy, to gently pave your path to patience, loving kindness, generosity ease of being for the benefit of yourself and others. Independently, we will study the texts of Yoga Sutras and the eight limbs of yoga; these (“threads”) of wisdom offer guideline for living a meaningful and purposeful life.

KNOW THE STUDENT: Anatomy and physiology
We are honored to introduce you to Alicia Malloy, RYT500, BS, MSPT, CSCS and Member of the Orthopedic Section of the APTA. Alicia will teach you how the body is engineered and how it most efficiently functions, thru practice and hands-on experience, so you can understand and teach safe and effective classes, and heal your own body for your life ahead.

How does one teach yoga? How does one touch and assist, speak and listen, move and be still within the classroom. 

EDUCATE THE STUDENT.
We are delighted to offer you the teachings of the late great Classical Yoga Master Georg Feuerstein as well as Skype time with his wife Brenda. A rich collection of the ancient history and philosophies of yoga, this Manual will peak your interest and remain a go-to reference for years to follow. It’s that good.

SACRED TEACHINGS.
We will be graced by the presence of Lama Migmar of the Cambridge Sakya Center. Lama Migmar is the Buddhist Chaplain of Harvard, frequent traveler with and assistant to the Dalai Lama, and an all around engaging and approachable carrier of great wisdom. Receive his teachings of Buddhist Philosophy, to gently pave your path to patience, loving kindness, generosity  ease of being for the benefit of yourself and others. Independently, we will  study the texts of Yoga Sutras and the eight limbs of yoga; these (“threads”) of wisdom offer guideline for living a meaningful and purposeful life. 

NOURISH THE STUDENT.
Gain insight into the subtle body of energies thru the introduction of the Chakra System, Nadi channels, Crystals Energy, Acupuncture (optional), Chinese Meridians and essential oils.

CALM THE STUDENT: Meditation
Steep in effective meditations and experience their effect on modern day minds, thru lecture, reflective journaling and practice. Mindfulness, calm abiding, loving kindness, tonglen - these simple and  beautiful experiences are yours to be learned, practiced and shared. These meditation techniques alone will bring you years of peace and wonder. Meditation is a beautiful gift to share with others, of all ages.

As a practice cue, “let go” runs the risk of being one of the greatest spiritual clichés.  And yet, when fully understood and implemented with skill, “letting go” encapsulates one of the greatest lessons on the spiritual journey. 

This workshop of Yin Yoga and Insight Meditation will explore three aspects of “letting go”:

1.    Letting go of our tendency to inhabit either the future or past.

2.    Letting go of our incessant demands that this moment be anything other than it is.

3.    Letting go, ultimately, of the sense of self that tries so hard, paradoxically, to let go.

Yin Yoga and Insight Meditation: Finding the Missing Peace

The spiritual journey promises a movement from noise to silence, from agitation to calm, from complexity to simplicity. But, ultimately, it is our inner orientation to that journey, not the practices themselves, that determines whether or not we will reach our destination.

Within the practices of Yin Yoga and Buddhist Insight Meditation, Josh will offer clear guidance for directing one's attention and energy towards the serenity and peace in the here and now regardless of the chaos in the world around or within you.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to more dynamic and active yoga styles. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe and positive ‘stress’ on the deeper layers of connective tissue in the body.

Physically, Yin Yoga restores and maintains the natural mobility of the joints, primarily between the navel and the knees. Energetically, Yin Yoga opens the body’s meridian system, which enhances the body’s energetic flow and supports emotional equilibrium.

Yin Yoga emphasizes stillness and silence. The practice prepares both the body and mind for deeper experiences in meditation. 

 

Josh’s Bio

Josh Summers is a Yin Yoga teacher, a licensed acupuncturist, and a meditation instructor. Josh began studying Iyengar yoga in the early nineties with James Murphy in New York City. Since then, he has spent several years living abroad in India, Taiwan and Burma where he has studied both yoga and meditation. As his interest in vipassana or insight meditation developed so too did his interest in more contemplative forms of yoga practice. With a professional background in Oriental Medicine and a personal passion for the dharma, Josh fell in love with Yin Yoga as a beautiful synthesis of the two.

Yoga Teachers and Anyone Looking to Take their Love of Yoga to a new level!

 

The Assistant Training will cover learning how to spot necessary hands-on assists and how to approach your students with steadiness & ease.  

 

We will Cover:

* The elements of a proper assist

* The knowledge of which assists may work best for an individual

* The Basic assists for the foundational poses

* The alignment principles that will allow you to adapt an assist to be helpful for similar poses. 

 

 

A proper hands-on assist, given with knowledge and sensitivity, can help us find the moment when we feel centered in a yoga pose, both strong and grounded allowing us the courage to explore further and go deeper. 
 

Hands-on assisting is one of the most important tools a yoga teacher can offer students.  

 

It feels extraordinary, inspires confidence and helps educate the body so it recognizes and internalizes the proper alignment for the next time we are in the pose.
